1. What kind of wood is your wand be made of? Go to the Celtic Wood Chart and find which according to your birth date. (This is similar to the traditional horoscopes.) Then copy-paste the description here. Bold traits that describe you very well and strike those that do not apply to you whatsoever. Then provide a brief commentary on how accurate you think these traits are in the scope of your nature and personality.
July 8 - August 4
"The 'new moon' Holly individual is more inclined to become involved with the dreams and ambitions of others by providing both financial and emotional support. While this is indicative of an unselfish and sympathetic nature, it can lead to a blind optimism which may be personally damaging. The 'full moon' Holly individual is more committed to his or her own dreams and amibitions. Such people are likely to become the founding members of societies or business corporations while still retaining a sense of history and tradition. The 'full moon' Holly individual, however, is frequently hypersenstive to personal criticism and may be forced to retreat periodically from the world. "
This doesn't fit me well at all. I have a sense of humor and, as cruel as this sounds, I laugh at the expense of others quite often- it's the way I exhibit my sense of humor. I can be reclusive, but not generally. I need to be by myself when I sleep, so I guess that counts as requiring a quiet place. I definitely can be over protective. I'm so not a behind-the-scenes person, though, and I do take risks. I'm not really logical, especially when I'm angry. I don't like being insulted, so I hate hate HATE personal criticism. I don't ever lose confidence in myself really, either. I at least pretend to, anyways. Looking through the list of woods, I think "Alder" fits me A LOT better:
"The 'new moon' Alder individual is perhaps the most restless and indecisive. While personal courage and sincerity may never be in doubt, such an individual might be well-advised to slow down every now and again in order to reconsider the cosequences of any actions. The 'full moon' Alder individual is the most persuasive, exuding a more confident approach to life in general, but can lack the apparent vibrant energy associated with the "new moon" Alder. Nevertheless, such individuals can become extremely successful by being strategically placed in the right position to take full advantage of any crisis situation. "
Powerful. Adventurous. Prepared to make own way in the world, often leaving friends and family behind. Possesses a great deal of courage. Usually prefers to fight own battles. Restless spirit. Foolhardy in pursuits. Very competitive by nature. Likely to do everything to the limit of being. Often directs energies entirely for the good of others. Will often "play the clown" when in the midst of a group. Extremely physical. Full of energy. Deep-seated need to be active almost 24 hours a day. Impetuous. Self-reliant. Enjoys risk-taking. 2. How do you think you would use magic? On a day to day basis? Over your entire lifespan?
I'm not sure if I truly understand this question. I think that I'd use magic to do mundane, annoying chores (i.e. cleaning), but only use it in absolutely dire situations otherwise. I like doing things on my own, honestly, and I enjoy taking a long time to do some of them. For instance, I love traveling. Not just in that I get to go somewhere new, but I love the process of getting there. I wouldn't want to short cut everything out of my life just to do it the easy way. So, I guess the answers to the second and third questions are: I would use it on a day to day basis over my entire lifespan. But only for certain things.
3. What are your strongest personality traits? Your weakest?
Can badass be a personality trait? Because I have it on good authority that stealing doors is badass, which, therefore, makes me badass. Anyways, there's a lot of stuff that people would consider 'negative' personality traits that I actually like about myself... most of the time. For instance, if I don't want to do something, then I DON'T DO IT. That simple. I'm very insubordinate. I'm not even really like in-your-face "LOOK AT ME NOT DOING WHAT YOU TOLD ME TO HAHAHA!!!" I simply... don't do it and when confronted about it later I don't apologize for it- I flat out say "I didn't do it because I didn't want to and it was stupid and unnecessary." Also, if I want to do something and was told I couldn't, I still would because I wanted to. I've got willpower, and sometimes it doesn't play in my favor, but it's such a huge part of who I am that, if I didn't like it, then I wouldn't like myself. Anyways, I think that my strongest AND weakest personality trait is that willpower. Because, as stated before, I stand up for/do what I want and what I like. I stand up for myself, but it really hurts me sometimes and gets me into a boat load of trouble.
4. If you could solve world hunger by killing one person would you? Explain why or why not.
Do I hate them? If I do, then yes. If I don't, then no. I know that's biased, but it isn't fair to that one person if I decide to ruin their lives for the sake of others. Also, the world needs problems, in my opinion. As horrible as it sounds, if there isn't something absolutely shitty going on, people start nitpicking and we wind up with things like that lady who's trying to obliterate Harry Potter-reading in the south. More important issues tend to take precedence in peoples minds, which stops the masses from getting wrapped up in that crap.
5. Who would you say is your role model? Explain.
It's a tie between nobody and myself. I look to myself to figure out who I am and I look to nobody to see what I want to be like. I've been pretty much left on my own my whole life, left to myself to figure things out, so I rely on myself to get myself places. I'm horrible at looking up to people, which is why I have a general lack of respect and a lot of apathy to that whole 'respect your elders/woman power' bullcrap my college is currently on. I'm not dependent at all; I don't need people to guide me or to tell me how to be. I figure it out on my own.
6. How do you respond to confrontation?
I confront it. I'm a conflict-whore, no lie. I have to have the last word, so if someone confronts me, I retaliate until either they end it or one of us ends it physically or there's intervention. I'm a proud person and losing isn't really my thing, even if it degenerates into a fist fight.
7. What values are important in your life?
Tricky question. I'm big on honesty. I don't believe in comforting lies. If something is bad, I will tell you it's bad. I'm blunt and (generally) honest about everything- censorship is lost on me, if you couldn't tell. I tell it like it is and expect others to do the same. Though, if I myself were to be perfectly honest with you, I'm not 100% sure what my most important values are... it's not something I've thought about. Buut.. I'll just go ahead and rattle off a few more things that I admire in people, such as loyalty. I think that if someone were to be loyal to another to the end, it's ridiculously romantic and somewhat admirable, even if they're loyal to some dickface like, say... Voldemort.
8. If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into?
I'm not sure what the one thing I'm most terrified of is. It would probably be like Frank from Donnie Darko, despite the fact that I adore him. Every time he shows up in that movie, I freaking jump out of my skin. Really, he's terrifying. Well, it's either that or a giant bee/hypodermic needle.
9. What makes a person respectable?
An honest and loyal person who found their way on their own. I don't put stock in people who just did as they were told- I respect people who fight adversity to get to where they are. I respect those who stand up for their beliefs and who have no need to lie about themselves or anything else. I respect people who are willing to stand up for their friends no matter what.
10. Which of the basic elements do you identify with the most: Earth, Air, Fire, or Water?
Fire. I'm a Leo, yeah? Fire sign! Anyways, one word that I would use to describe myself is 'fiery': I'm temperamental and loud, like fire, and I can be very, very destructive, either literally or figuratively. I can start up out of nothing, and just BOOM, I explode. I've also got a mild pyro obsession- fire really mystifies me. I think, if I had to choose another, though, I'd pick water, more because of my relationship with it than actually identifying with it. Fire has always been a destructive force in my life, especially when I lived in Colorado, what with those forest fires and all, but water's always been like... a savior? I don't know, it's just really important- it puts out fires, I drink it, I'm a swimmer, I've always lived near some sort of body of water (like my house is on the Potomac and my school is on the James River). In short, I <3 water.
11. Do you believe there can be a truly selfless act?
No. People trying to do selfless things are only doing so to 1- give themselves a pat on the back for being selfless, 2- religious and trying to go to heaven/wherever, or 3- just trying to feel good in general or get praise. It's like that Friends episode where Phoebe tries to be selfless and fails. It just doesn't work.
12. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?
Right now? Australia. Because it's different, unique and I seem to get along well with the live-in-the moment view many Aussies of my acquaintance have. I also think that it's so freaking gorgeous and it's somewhat dangerous to live in, given that it's got a shit load of things that can kill you. Oh, and it's really far away and I want to be really far away right now. School and I are not friends.
13. Have you read all of the Harry Potter Books? If yes, which book is your favorite and why? If no, which book is your favorite so far and why haven't you finished the rest?
Yes and Order of the Phoenix because of Sirius, mostly. I loved the background on him and the more detailed outlining of his character. I'm not a huge fan of emo-Harry, but I also like the plot development, because Voldemort was finally really back and stirring things up. I consider it the beginning of the end- when main characters started dying and the whole story starts coming to light. <33
14. Who is your favorite character in the HP series? Why?
Sirius Black. Why? Because I get him, I relate to him. Because he's a bit of an arrogant jerk, he's a prankster, he's attractive and he knows it. He's deep emotionally and he's had a trying past and overcome his family to be who he is and he doesn't give a crap about what people think. He doesn't care if it's against the rules, he does what he thinks is right. And... I could go on drooling, but I think you get the point.
15. Which character is your least favorite in the HP series? Why?
Molly Weasley because she's annoying and repressive. She tries to shelter her children way too much, to the point where I just want to ring her neck. She's a mollycoddler, and mollycoddler's and I don't get along. I despise sheltering children... it doesn't turn out happy for anyone.
16. If you were a part of the HP series, what canon character(s) would you be friends with and why? Which character(s) do you think you would not get along with?
I would fit in well with the Marauders and/or Fred and George because we think alike. Well, James and Sirius, Fred and George and I think at least similarly, and I like Remus a whole ton, anyways. I'm ignoring Peter here. As for not getting along with people... Hermione, Cho, Percy, and any other straight-edge or crybaby in the school.
17. Choose a quote from one of the HP books. ANY quote. Be sure to cite who said it and explain why it is your favorite.
Harry: Does it hurt?
Sirius: Dying? Not at all.
This tore my little black heart to pieces. It was beautiful. That's really all I can say about it.
Favorite Spell from the Harry Potter Series: This isn't exactly a spell, but Animagi are made of win.
