The Wizard

1. What kind of wood is your wand be made of? Go to the Celtic Wood Chart and find which according to your birth date. (This is similar to the traditional horoscopes.) Then copy-paste the description here. Bold traits that describe you very well and strike those that do not apply to you whatsoever. Then provide a brief commentary on how accurate you think these traits are in the scope of your nature and personality.
April 15 - May 12

Articulate. Strong-willed. Resourceful. Touches upon all aspects of nature and its association with the Moon. Emotional. Enigmatic. Responds quickly in situations. Prone to sudden mood changes. Difficult to get to know. Shrewd. Practical. Brilliant inventor. Drawn to the unexplained mysteries of life. A passive tenacity. An extraordinarily wise counselor. Protective of loved ones. Often reluctant to forgive and forget. Usually employed in very responsible positions. Counted among the best teachers. Seldom expresses a controversial opinion in public. Posseses an overactive imagination. Tends to fret needlessly about health matters. Deep interest in family loyalty and history and usually becomes the family genealogist. Incredibly difficult to get to know due to the type of "veil" personality which hides a great deal. Sense of humor is not always easy to define. Blessed with a potential wisdom. Makes a wise advisor. Usually a valued member of society.

Like most astrology type of things, I think it hits on key traits but as each person is different it will vary of course by person. As a fire sign I think a lot of the hot headed traits are in me but I'm not a very social person. I don't think I'm a very good teacher, and I'm not very nurturing. I think for the most part everyone can find a little of their self in those types of descriptions although as a whole it should just be taken as a grain of salt. Everyone has their own personalities so not all of us under the same sign are going to be even remotely alike.

2. How do you think you would use magic? On a day to day basis? Over your entire lifespan?
As often as possible and for EVERYTHING! I can honestly see myself trying to put my shoes and socks on with magic just because I could. If I can find a short cut to something then I'm going to take it, and isn't magic the ultimate short cut? I'd be cooking, cleaning, going places all with the flick of my wand. Although I'm sure there would be times in which I couldn't use magic but I'm sure I'd try to find a way around it.. I'd probably spend more time trying to find a way around NOT trying to use magic and finding a way around using it.

3. What are your strongest personality traits? Your weakest?
I'm very strong willed. When I see something that I want I do anything that I can to achieve it. I won't throw people under the bus to get what I want, but if they are in my way I will make sure that they moved. I also think at times this is my weakest trait as well. It makes me appear to be a cold, and selfish person which has left me friendless. But I'm just trying to get myself to where I need to be, once I'm there I can worry about having friends.

4. If you could solve world hunger by killing one person would you? Explain why or why not.
It would really depend on the person being killed to be honest. You can view it as one life to save millions.. But what if that ONE person is the ONE person that could have saved them by other means? If it was just a random person of no importance then I would do it yes, but then of course comes the argument of who is to judge who is of no importance. I think it should be weighed on what the person could provide for the world, there are a lot of stupid people in the world which I think we might be better off without.

5. Who would you say is your role model? Explain.
I'm not really sure if I have one.. I think I strive to be a lot like my mother. She has her PhD, she's a college professor, she's survived many things in her life which I'm not sure if I'd be strong enough to go through myself. But I'm not sure if she's a "role model" or a "hero" to me in a sense. I strive to be like her, but while all the same I don't want to be anything like her. I think I just admire her conviction, and her intelligence to get through the things she has laid in front of her life.

6. How do you respond to confrontation?
I'm VERY confrontational. I LOVE heated debates, and playing the devils advocate. I will play to an opposite side even if I don't believe a word I'm saying just for the thrill of it.
But I also have a very short temper when something does set me off so I have a tendency to kind of blow up at people. Then once I get mad I just sit and brood over it for hours. And even if I act like I'm over it and no longer upset.. I still am. I'll remember until the day I die, and bring up up every chance I get.

7. What values are important in your life?
Standing up for what you believe in is the most important thing to be in the world. I don't care what someone has to say, everyone has an opinion and their own reason for that opinion. But please don't bash me on mine. I will debate things with people, but I stand for what I believe in and I except others to do the same. Nothing will make me lose my respect for someone more than if they waffle on what they think. I hate when people take other peoples opinions and regurgitate them back like a parrot! I'm pretty much a live and let live person but that's one thing that really gets under my skin and which I hold very important to me.

8. If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into?
A giant spider. I HATE spiders, I freak out and get upset even when I see the smallest one! The idea that the daddy long leg spider is the most poisonous spider in the world but doesn't have a mouth big enough to bite humans really freaks me out. And the only way I'd be laughing at that thing is if a huge hammer or giant sneaker crushed it.

The World

9. What makes a person respectable?
Review my "values" answer. I don't like repeating myself like a broken record, I always think people will just pass over it otherwise. So a short recap, stay true to your beliefs. If you believe in God good for you, if you're a republican/independent/democrat and you're HAPPY with that then stick with it. But don't change what you think for anyone else. It just makes you look like a weak person, it's fine if something happens for you to change your mind but don't do it because of someone else or to be cool. Even if what you think is wrong stand by it.

10. Which of the basic elements do you identify with the most: Earth, Air, Fire, or Water?
I like to believe I'd identify with the fire signs. Although I'm a home body and a complete hermit it's more for my contempt for the people around me than being shy. I'm really outspoken and loud. I was a wild child in my younger years. Fire signs are supposed to be extroverted, and act quickly without thinking.. Although I'm not so extroverted anymore I still do things without thinking. I do a lot of things with the mind set, of ohh I want this NOW! So I go off and do whatever I want whenever I want. It has hurt people that I care about in the past, but I still have yet to learn my lesson. I never think about what's coming next.

11. Do you believe there can be a truly selfless act?
Yes and no. I think people can do something that they consider a completely selfless act much like in Harry Potter giving himself to death to save those he loved.. But he was giving himself up as to save those he loved which is a way was a little for himself. I think there are people out there of doing very good things but if they are doing it because they care about the people then they are still doing it a little bit for themselves. Personally I don't think I'd be able to even do that.

12. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?
The United Kingdom. I'm kind of sick of the United States, especially living in California. I've lived in Spain and although I love it and it's a part of me. I love the weather and atmosphere in the United Kingdom and all of Europe in general. There is so much history, culture, and true nationalism which I believe is lacking here in California. I would love to live some where that has national history museums, art museums, tons of books stores, old churches, and theater. Plus every time I have ever been in the UK it's always cold, foggy, and day light is lacking. Which is my PERFECT type of weather, I'm not a big fan of sunlight.

The Reader

13. Have you read all of the Harry Potter Books? If yes, which book is your favorite and why? If no, which book is your favorite so far and why haven't you finished the rest?
Yes, I have read all of them several times.. Enough times for people to think I'm a bit obsessed.
My favorite on the series is Order of the Phoenix and of course Deathly Hallows. In OotP Harry just showed SO much passion, he was always just this selfless nice hero but then finally he showed anger and emotion. His attitude towards death, his friends, school, and life just really I think let me identify with him. Although I was really jealous when he dated Cho Chang it didn't make me too happy. =)
And with Deathly Hallows, I just loved how it finally tied EVERYTHING together. I still reread the Princes Tale over and over again, and I always try. Although I noticed that in DH they call Dumbledore's invention which he left to Ron the "deluminator" but it's the "put-outer" in the first book. That kind of irked me a little, and I was upset because I didn't think the ending told us enough.. Like what everyones job was and what happened to everyone although I know Rowling has said it all in later interviews.. I'm not sure if I was upset that the story ended in that manner or because it just ended.

14. Who is your favorite character in the HP series? Why?
Luna Lovegood. She's an oddball, but a smart one. You never know what is going to come out of her mouth it's always something wacky which doesn't make any sense. But once you think about it and think about it from her perspective then it does make sense. She's such a lonely person who is looking for someone to love her that every time I read about her I just want to give her a book. But it's odd in a sense because someone like Luna you would believe to be weak on the surface, once they get to know her throughout the series she's so strong willed and brave that you realize she's a lot smarter, and she has a lot more going on for her than she's willing to let on.

15. Which character is your least favorite in the HP series? Why?
I can't honestly say that I have one. For the most part every character that is presented with enough depth for me to form an opinion on them they have their moments where I hate them and moments where I love them. I like Draco Malfoy in personality, but I think he's a coward. I think Ginny is too strong willed for my liking too assertive and trying to make herself a presence but when she's with Harry she has a sweet demeanor. I love Bellatrix Lestrange for being so pushy in a sense, but I think she's weak with her love for Voldemort plus she killed off so many people that I loved! So I can't really say that I have a least favorite character cause I liked and disliked almost everyone at some point.

16. If you were a part of the HP series, what canon character(s) would you be friends with and why? Which character(s) do you think you would not get along with?
I'd probably be friends with Draco. I wouldn't be like Pansy, and be his little lap dog. But when I was in high school, I only had a small select group of friends and we bashed and made fun of everyone else in the world. Vocally, and made a point to let everyone else know we were better than them. I still tend to hang out with elitist snobs.
I don't think I'd be friends with the trio though. I think Hermione's know it all attitude would conflict with my own know it all attitude and I'd probably get affronted and start yelling. Plus I'd probably be more concerned with my own well being at school rather than those of my friends at school.

17. Choose a quote from one of the HP books. ANY quote. Be sure to cite who said it and explain why it is your favorite.
"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" - Dumbledore DH pg. 723
This is one of my favorite quotes because I'm always making things up in my head. I will take something that happens in my life and turn it into the worst thing that has ever happened to me.. But no matter what anyone may tell me I take it as it's real. So taken literally this quote just speaks to me because even if I know I'm wrong I'll still always go with what's in my head and think it's right until the very end.
It also lets you have fun with your imagination. It tells you that even if something doesn't seem reasonable, even if it seems like it could only be a dream it doesn't mean it can't come true.

Favorite Spell from the Harry Potter Series: I'm not sure if I have one, I think all spells are useful. Although I think the summoning spell would probably be the most useful. As I'm very lazy and it would be wonderful if I could just say a few words and get whatever I needed to get. Although my more "evil" side would think the imperious spell would be wonderful just to have people do my bidding. But whether or not I'd have the guts to use it is something else, because you really have to mean it.

Ahh thank you. I fixed it, I don't know why I missed it I read the rules through like 5 times and didn't even notice until I went to check an other application. I can be blind at times.
I loooooooove your sig. Did you make it?
Your ambitiousness to the point of making sure that people move out of the way for you to get there, wanting to be friends with Draco, and contempt for idiots make me say Slytherin for sure. I think you kind of waiver between Gryffindor and Slytherin because you strongly believe in standing up for yourself and you identify with fire, but then you say you're also an introvert. I honestly get a Snape vibe from you reading your app, so I have to say Slytherin. And seriously, I can't see anyone other than a Slytherin wanting to be friends with Draco. So yes, this is what I say.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
#3 Definitely had me saying Slytherin. I can see that you're highly ambitious and willing to put your dreams before making friends. You said you see what you want and go get it, so that definitely screams snake to me. I can also see the emotional Gryffindor coming love confrontation and love the heated debate. That trait really could go either way...then you said you really can't stand stupid people. Slytherin definitely! (Though...I agree wholeheartedly...) 7 and 13 were a bit Gryffindor to me, but then your desire to be friends with Draco had my saying Slytherin again. It's a tough sort for me overall, but...I am going to pick Slytherin for you. (Though, IMO, you're definitely a Slytherdor.) Oh, also, that quote you picked? My favorite also!

EDIT: apparently I'm retarded and can't vote right the first time, lol.

okay...and i can't get my sig tag right? lame. yeah...i need to go to bed.

haha thats okay, the other community I'm in requires you to put your own house in the header then bold the house you think they are in.. I can understand how it goes especially when you're tired. =)

Also I'm glad to see someone else who has mostly HP related icons.. I'm always afraid people are going to think I'm a tad bit too obsessed if they look at my icons.
And is that a dachshund in one of your icons?

haha yes, and thank you.
I think this application is a much more conclusive way to sort. It's based more on your own personality, and how you view the books rather than on how you would view yourself in canon like in Phoenix.
I’m going to give a preliminary vote now, and come back late to elaborate on it later – I promise.

Join us in Slytherin, prz.

... *twitch* 'come back to elaborate on it later' is what I meant. *stabs the stray 'late' that crept in*

- Still Samuel of Slytherin
I told you I’d be back to elaborate, so here I am!

It didn’t really feel like the traits given in the first question were enough to really get any idea of who you were, though I definitely got some Slytherin and Gryffindorish feelings based off a few of the things you bolded. For example, Slytherin are very resourceful, and Gryffindors are very emotional. But you also crossed out ‘protective of loved ones’, which I see as simultaneously un-Hufflepuff and pro-Slytherin. You hold grudges, which I think works for all the houses except Hufflepuff. The most important trait, though, I think is ‘incredibly difficult to get to know due to the type of "veil" personality which hides a great deal’, and the fact that you bolded it makes me want to lean towards Slytherin; we snakes are usually very secretive, and prefer to keep a certain façade on at all times, except when around those closest to us. Your answer to number two also gives me Slytherin ‘vibes’, just because that’s how I picture Slytherins using magic, including myself. You’re strong-willed and driven, also very Slytherin traits. Your answer to number four could’ve been either Ravenclaw or Slytherin, to me, as does your answer to number five. Being confrontational, as you claim to be, I see as very Gryffindor or Slytherin, and perhaps Ravenclaw. Now… I usually depend on questions one through seven for my vote, but your answer to seven isn’t really giving me any feelings… so, so far it’s Slytherin.

Your answers for ‘the World’ and ‘the Reader’ didn’t really sway me one way or another, though if pressed to choose based on them, I’d say your answers to ten, eleven, and, actually, number seventeen made me decide on Slytherin. So, please join us!

- Samuel//Slytherin HoH
You are just... so Slytherin. You're strong-willed, like to play devil's advocate, you would use magic for everything, and you say you would be friends with Draco Malfoy. That's definitely enough to make me say Slytherin. Good luck in your Sorting! :D

Hi, Hilda! Well, let's see - I'm picking up on both Slytherin and Gryffindor in your first answer, because you mention that you've got the hot-headed traits of fire signs, but, like Snape, you're not terribly social. I'm a fire sign too (I'm a Sagittarius), so I'm kind of getting what you mean by that. You're enigmatic, which is a Snapelike Slytherin tendency, since we didn't really know what side he was on until the very end of DH. I agree completely with what you said about how these astrology things are so overly general that everyone can find a bit of themselves in each description, but it shouldn't be taken as a definer of one's personality. Heck, I don't think any of my astrology descriptions really fit with my personality!

Your answer to question 3 is definitely Slytherin in tone - you won't run people over to get what you want, but you'll make sure they move, and you want to look out for yourself first, and deal with friends later. I like that! Your admiration of your mother because she's so accomplished can be interpreted as Ravenclaw, because you discuss her intelligence to get through everything she'd planned out for herself, or Slytherin, because she's accomplished so much in her life. (What does she teach, by the way?) Later, you say you're friends with elitist snobs who make sure that everyone knows you're better than they are (ha, that's great - we'll have to discuss this one day, because I do the exact same thing sometimes) and don't really like to socialise because of your contempt for people rather than just being shy, and you'd look out for your own well-being in school first before concerning yourself with others.

The one answer that struck me as unquestionably Gryffindor in your application was question 6, where you say you love and enjoy confrontation and heated debates. That you play devil's advocate in arguments just for the thrill of doing it is also very Gryffindor. Others have picked up on devil's advocacy as being a Slytherin trait, but I see that as more Gryffindor, especially within the context. Also, your short temper and your tendency to blow up at people are definite Gryffindor traits; however, your ability to hold a grudge can be read as Slytherin as well as Gryffindor. We see that sort of grudge-holding both in Snape and in several of the Gryffindor characters throughout the series.

Okay, I lied - I also see Gryffindor in how you think you should stand up for your beliefs and stick by them regardless of what other people say, that everyone should respect everyone else's beliefs because they're entitled to them, and that changing your beliefs for other people makes you look weak. Instant gratification, too, and your opinionated nature, and your admiration for Harry's passion in OotP. So that's definitely more than one thing - you're a very defined Slytherdor, what can I say?

I'll admit I was considering Gryffindor for you, because of the way you've described your temper and how you deal with confrontation, and how you believe that you should stand up for your beliefs and yourself no matter what. I very rarely give Slytherin votes, because, like you've described yourself, I'm a bit of a snob (more than a bit, really, but who's checking?) and don't like to let just anybody into my house. But, I like you, and I think I'd rather see you with us in Slytherin!

Well, I'm glad you like me. It doesn't happen often. =)
And my mother is a history professor, which has also happened to be my chosen major.. More so because I secretly want to be Indiana Jones, and if I can't do that I want to be able to sit in a room reading old books and translating all day.
Slytherin, like everyone else, was my immediate though. You have quite a bit of Gryffindor though what with your passion and temper but I think you'll fit in more in Slytherin. Your answer in question three ("I'm just trying to get myself to where I need to be, once I'm there I can worry about having friends") is really, really Slytherin. Good luck with your sorting! :-)

You have shown your Slytherin side in both applications I have voted on of yours. In the first question, you put in bold articulate, resourceful, strong-willed and often finds it difficult to forgive and forget. These are only a few of the things from this question that pulled me towards Slytherin. The entire answer to number three screamed Slytherin in my opinion. The way you talked about the fact that you feel there are a lot of stupid people in the world just really made me see Slytherin. Number six reminds me so much of me. I love having a debate and if that requires I take a stand on a side that I really have no belief in, I will do it just to challenge the other individual. Number ten in your admittance that you have contempt towards others also have a Slytherin feel to it. All around I think this application has a very strong Slytherin vibe.

Welcome and good luck with your sorting!

1. This gave me a couple of vibes, but the one that stuck out most was definitely Slytherin. I saw this because you say you are hotheaded, you bolded a veiled personality, and you are not all that socially oriented.
2. The enthusiasm for magic makes me lean away from Slytherin on this one, maybe a little Gryffindor, simply because I think they tend to be on the lazier side of doing menial tasks. Gryffindor
3. Gryffindor. You are motivated, but not at extreme detriment to others.
4. The way you answered this said Ravenclaw to me, because you went beyond the shallowness and delved into a little philosophy.
5. Ravenclaw. Conviction and Intelligence.
6. Gryffindor. Confrontational, and likes to have a good argument, but all in good spirits. Although, a temper usually accompanies someone as strong willed as a lion.
7. In the same breath as the previous question, Gryffindor. You have your stubborn aspects, and you respect others'. Almost Slytherin, but you do not necessarily believe that all other aspects of the situation are wrong.
8. The only reason I have a vibe fro this is because of Ron. This is the one question that I rarely get a vibe from (I think it would be better for character stamping, maybe), but the spider thing made me think of Ron, so I am going Gryffindor with this.
9. Ravenclaw. I know on the values one, I said Gryffindor, but the respect for self and your ideas made me think of Ravenclaw in this answer a little more. Gryffindors ARE this, but Ravenclaws believe that it makes you respectable.
10. Gryffindor. Not always logical, not always having the best developed plans, but outspoken :)
11. Ravenclaw. Just the thought process shown in the answer, really.
12. I want to say Slytherin, just because you made me picture a vampire. Moreover, I am mean like that, ha-ha. No, but really, I think Ravenclaw, in reality. It seems you are fed up [like me] with living in America with complete...idiots; I guess that is the word I am looking for. In addition, brooding has always seemed a little Ravenclaw to me.
13. Not really a vibe here.
14. I have a soft spot for Luna. :) Ravenclaw, with a little Hufflepuff compassion there.
15. Ravenclaw. The fact you can appreciate someone for depth of character rather than shallowly thinking of character traits.
16. The only reason I say Slytherin here is because I do not think Draco would be friendly to anyone but.
17. Ravenclaw. Just how you said it. :)
Ravenclaw: 8
Slytherin: 2
Hufflepuff: 1
Gryffindor: 6
Ok. I’m going with my own house on this one. Ravenclaw rocks, and I think you’re just an amalgamate of all of the houses, but you’re intelligent. :)

Okay when my brain screams put them in Slytherin now. I it is giving me a head ache. Sorry for the short post.

I'll try to give a more detailed vote later, but yeah, Slytherin.

Most definitely so.... I am a lil late getting to this one... But I figured I would stop in and vote!!!

You sly little snaky girl, I like you a lot :D Ambitious, confrontational, vocal, opinionated, all of these are Slytherin traits and just your attitude in general screams Slytherin. I saw a few flecks of Gryffindor with loyalty to family and people you care about but for the most part you're a loner who can stand on her own and have her own opinions and not worry about what anyone else thinks of her, good or bad. That stand alone complex is definitely snakeish and I like it. You're also willing to do what you can to make things in life as efficient and easy to get through as possible, which shows your definitely attraction to magic and the possibilities of exploiting anything and everything from it. I really can't see you anywhere else. Off to Slytherin with you!
oops forgot my siggy:

Great answer to question four, nice way to look at the consequences of your actions from a non-moral point of view. Which brings me neatly to the main vibe I got from this; intelligent self-interest without being overburdened with doing what's right or what looks positive in the opinions of others. And the elitist snob-remark made me smile (for reasons too tedious to go into here), as it is more evidence of a textbook Slytherin.
Good Slytherin applications are always a joy to read.
